Villa Casa Pinheiro in Tavira eastern Algarve, Portugal

Casa Pinheiro is a private family villa set in a beautiful unspoilt region of the Algarve 5 miles to the west of Tavira. It lies at the heart of the Ria Formosa wetlands nature reserve and is rich in bird and other wildlife.

The villa has 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, drawing room, terrace, roof terrace, private infinity pool and under-floor heating which heats the house in winter and the swimming pool (11m by 5m) in spring & autumn.

We have 5 acres of land running down to a tidal lagoon where local fishermen harvest shellfish and moor their colourful boats. On the other side of the lagoon is a five mile long sandy beach. Casa Pinheiro is perfect for people who enjoy peace, beauty and sunshine.

The Ria Formosa nature reserve is a famous haven for birds and other wildlife. The nearest town is the historic Tavira,  a lovely  town of Roman origins which is a fishing port with an old-fashioned and tranquil atmosphere, attractive squares and churches. The nearest village, Luz de Tavira is a mile away. The local people have a well-deserved reputation for being good-natured and easy-going. There are plenty of excellent inexpensive Portuguese restaurants in the area. One of the best of the local restaurants is within easy walking distance of Casa Pinheiro.

Tavira has an excellent daily market (mornings) selling fish, meat, fruit and vegetables and a good range of shops of all sorts. The nearest village, Luz de Tavira, (where all the basic shopping can be done) has a small market for fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and meat, and is a mile away.  Olhão (about 15 minutes away) has a good market (particularly recommended on Saturday mornings when it expands out onto the surrounding streets).

It is only a short drive into the Algarve hills to see the wild flowers and stroll among the almonds and citrus groves or to watch the sun set. If you are feeling more adventurous, you can make a day trip to to the beautiful wild coastline around Cape St Vincent.

Seville is less than two hours away and is a magnificent city. The Cota Donana and the Marismas, one of Europe's greatest wildlife sanctuaries are an hour and a half away in Spain. Or you may just like to drive or take the ferry to the Spanish border town of Ayamonte.

Lisbon can be reached by car in about two and a half hours.
