February / March / April

treat yourself to an early Spring and be outdoors amongst almond blossom, jacaranda, oleanders, beautiful wild flowers etc. See the flamingos and other spring birds, enjoy the beautiful light, warm sunny days, early season fruit (strawberries etc). You can smell the fragrant orange blossom with the oranges still on the trees.

May

a really beautiful month with lengthening days and average temperatures over 70oF; watch out for the visiting bee-eaters, hoopoes, egrets, etc; catch the International Festival of Music which brings world class musicians into local churches; a great time of year to visit the wonderful Coto Donana wildlife reserve;

June

enjoy the endlessly long days and superb light and colours; possibly the best climate of the year; fewer tourists in the towns and villages; catch the end of the Festival of Music; watch the nightjars' spectacular dusk flights; try really fresh juicy peaches, apricots and nectarines and rich ripe cherries

July, August

the climate is excellent and the eastern Algarve is generally blessed with gentle sea breezes which normally keep the temperature comfortable; Casa Pinheiro is very peaceful even in the height of summer and you can get right away from the summer crowds

September

all the weather advantages of July and August; new harvest of fresh grapes; exceptionally beautiful light; restaurants and shops less busy

October/November

with average temperatures still over 70o F, this is a good time to visit Portugal and see it without too many tourists; fresh mangoes; the olive and wine grape harvests; enjoy a visit to Andalucia (Seville, Cordoba, Granada) without the heat of high summer
