Average daily temperatures:

The Algarve has a lovely climate all year round with over 3000 hours of sunshine a year. In the summer, gentle sea breezes keep the temperature comfortable. average daytime temperatures in the Algarve range from 15 degrees C (January) to 28 degrees C (August)

Algarve hills:
The hills a few miles back from the coast are full of wild flowers and beautiful to walk in and to watch the sensational sunsets from.

Algarve wetlands:
The richly diverse nature reserve protecting the wetlands of the eastern Algarve. Wildlife and bird sanctuary.

Bird watching in Algarve:
The area around Casa Pinheiro is famed for its varied bird life from bee-eaters to flamingos and many waders.

Cacela Velha:
Tiny elevated village east of Tavira with good bar and spectacular views.

Cape St Vincent:
Most westerly point of the Algarve. Wild and of great historic interest.

Casa Pinheiro:
Beautiful 4 bedroom/4 bathroom villa on the coast in the Ria Formosa nature reserve near Tavira in the eastern Algarve. It sleeps up to 8 people, has a private swimming pool and under-floor heating. It offers peaceful, relaxing holidays in a stunningly lovely setting with land running down to the water’s edge.

Castro Marium:
A beautiful new course in the hills just north of Castro Marim opened in 2000. The course is on the Portuguese side of the new bridge over the Guadiana to Spain and about half an hour away. Again the initial green fees are reasonable.

Coto Donana:
Wonderful bird sanctuary and nature reserve in Andalucia less than an hour and a half from Casa Pinheiro.

Eastern Algarve:
The part of the Algarve between Faro and the Spanish border.

Faro:
Capital of Algarve about 30 minutes west of Casa Pinheiro.

Golfing in Algarve:
The Algarve is famous for its golf courses many of which can be easily accessed from Casa Pinheiro.

Infinity pool:
The pool water runs over the edge giving the impression of  continuity between the pool and the sea beyond.

Lagoon:
Tidal wetlands estuary fronting the Casa Pinheiro land.

Lisbon:
Beautiful capital city of Portugal less than 3 hours from Casa Pinheiro by road.

Luz de Tavira:
Nearest village to Casa Pinheiro.

Olhão:
Fishing and market town 8 miles east of  Casa Pinheiro.

Pedras del Rei:
Leisure complex a couple of miles along the coast from Casa Pinheiro with a Thomas-the-tank-engine train to a very good bathing  beach.

Quinta da Ria golf club:
The best of the golf courses so far in the Tavira area.

Restaurants:
There are dozens of good simple local restaurants in Tavira and Santa Luzia as well as some more international ones.
Our favourite local restaurant is within walking distance of Casa Pinheiro and serves fish straight out of the sea.

Santa Luzia:
Pretty fishing village a couple of miles along the coast from Casa Pinheiro with lots of good restaurants.

Seville:
Beautiful Andalucian Spanish city leas than an hour and a half from Casa Pinheiro.

Sotavento:
the local name for the eastern Algarve.

Tavira:
Beautiful local fishing port in the Eastern Algarve with an excellent market.

Tuna fishing:
The tuna fishing industry used to support many of the fishing villages of the eastern Algarve.

Under-floor heating:
Casa Pinheiro has under-floor heating using an eco-friendly heat pump which can be switched from the villa to heat the swimming pool in spring and autumn.

Vale de Lobo / Quinta do Lago:
There are several golf courses in the Vale de Lobo area, about 45 minutes to the west of Casa Pinheiro.
Generally very good, but can be crowded and expensive.
