Golf Courses:

Tavira: There is a lovely new 36 hole golf club called Quinta da Ria just to the east of Tavira at Fabrica. There is no building being allowed around the course other than a single hotel.

The Benamor course on the outskirts of Tavira, less than 15 minutes from Casa Pinheiro, was designed by Henry Cotton and opened in 2000 .

The green fees at the moment are more reasonable than the more established courses to the West.

Castro Marim: A beautiful new course in the hills just north of Castro Marim (25 minutes from Casa Pinheiro) opened in 2000. The course is on the Portuguese side of the bridge to Spain over the Guadiana. A second course is being built.

Vale de Lobo / Quinta do Lago: There are several well known golf courses in the Vale de Lobo area, about 45 minutes to the west of Casa Pinheiro. They are generally very good, but can be crowded and expensive.

Spanish golf courses: There are also golf courses at the Spanish border town of Ayamonte (about 25 minutes away) and at Isla Antilla, a further 20 minutes.
